Beethoven to Wagner

Classical

The guitar has a niche existence in classical music. There is hardly a piece by a classical guitar composer that is known to a wider audience, and yet if it has become famous – such as Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” – it often uses elements of Spanish folklore.

This lack of concert repertoire has led many classical guitar performers to arrange the great works of classical music for guitar. The “Strings of Berlin” follow a similar path and have some of the most famous classical melodies in their repertoire – in their own way…

La Primavera , Spring, from Antonio Vivaldi’s ” The 4 Seasons”,  with its short, cheerful theme, is ideal for the accompaniment of festive moments.

Other titles from this genre:

  • Wedding March (Mendelssohn-Bartholdy / R. Wagner)
  • Canon in D (Johann Pachelbel)
  • Ode to Joy (L. v. Beethoven)

With ” Peer Gynt” Edvard Grieg created a wonderful setting of the poem of the same name. Several movements are known far beyond classical music , including Solveig’s song.

Other titles from this genre:

  • Ave Maria (Franz Schubert)
  • Theme from Swan Lake (PI Tchaikovsky)
  • Air on the G-String (JS Bach)

The  Hungarian Dance No. 3  by Johannes Brahms is reminiscent of folklore melodies from the Balkans and is often interpreted by instrumentalists of all styles.

  • Carmen (George Bizet)
  • Valse de l`Adieu (Frederic Chopin)
